We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Tax Associate to join our client's dynamic team. In this critical role, you will play a pivotal role in providing comprehensive tax expertise to ultra-high-net-worth individuals and families, focusing on complex personal, corporate, and trust tax matters.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee the preparation and filing of complex Canadian and US personal, corporate, trust, and foundation tax returns, ensuring strict compliance with all relevant tax laws and regulations.
- Collaborate closely with internal teams (investment, financial planning, accounting) to gather necessary information and documentation for accurate tax planning and compliance.
- Conduct in-depth research on various investment products and stay abreast of evolving tax laws, regulations, and planning strategies to advise clients proactively.
- Provide expert guidance on wealth transfer, asset protection, and tax-efficient estate structures.
- Build strong client relationships through clear, concise communication and exceptional client service.
- Assist with client audits and reviews, preparing necessary documentation and liaising with external partners (auditors, tax attorneys).
- Analyze financial data to identify tax planning opportunities and mitigate potential tax risks.
- Explore and implement innovative solutions, including the potential use of AI, to streamline processes and enhance efficiency.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- CPA or equivalent professional certification is essential.
- Minimum of 4-5 years of direct experience in tax compliance, planning, and advisory.
- Deep understanding of Canadian and US tax laws and regulations, including international tax treaties and withholding tax.
- Proven experience in working with complex corporate structures, including multiple trusts, holding companies, and family offices.
- Expertise in tax accounting software.
- Strong analytical, research, and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and client service skills.
- Proactive and self-motivated with a strong desire to stay informed about the latest tax developments.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including advanced Excel skills.
